i just bought symphony  (from FCP) and im missing it!  it dosent seem to work!  when i FINALLY inport AVID clips i brought in from red cini x, when i play a clip on the top RANDOMALLY there are blips of discolor that is across the top 1" on the screen!

and when i do a dissolve, after rendering it it plays at 1/2 speed then plays normal!

then i got fed up and quit!

i think i ready to go back to FCP!?!?

I was able to do this before, not sure if it went away with v6.  I make a digital cut to HDCam and at the same time make a DVD burn via the analog outs with downconvert turned on.

Now, when I have downconvert on, I see the SD signal on the analog output while everything is sitting still.  But when I hit Digital Cut, the analog outputs go black/silent.

Is there something new in v6 that needs to be set?

I have MC and FCP.  If I take advantage or the crossgrade offer and install Symphony on a different system drive, will MC be deactivated?  I am a bit concerned changing programs in mid project.

Has anybody done this? 

I just purchased the Symphony crossgrade and my new HP workstation should arrive in a week or two.   I was planning on getting the Matrox mini for HD monitoring.   I know the Matrox works with MC.   Does it work with Symphony (software only) as well?

Hello...Having more problems..actually 2 problems...here we go..

1- While working sometimes the audio stop coming out of the speakers..I still see the audio tool monitoring in avid reading the signal but it won't go out of the audio card...I quit avid and when I double click on the avid icon to restart the program it won't start...won't respond at all...I have to restart the computer...

2- Again everything is working fine...but suddenlly the keyboard is not responding...(actually the keyboard outside avid works fine...I tested) I can click play (for example) with the mousse and it will work but not with the keyboard...It last for a minute or so and then starts to work normally again

Both issues had happened several times already....

Any ideas what may be the problem?

I resize the Source/Record monitor for different workspaces.  In my Effects workspace I even hide the Source monitor so just the Record monitor is there.

Ever since 6.0, the Source/Record monitor size and configuration does not track correctly with my saved workspaces.  Especially when going from a workspace where the Source monitor is hidden and one where it is not hidded and vice-vers.

Anyone else having this issue?

Also, getting random fonts in my timeline.  Anyone?

I'm on the verge of crossgrading a FCP 7 license to Avid Symphony and would like to check if the Symphony patch is a full install on Mac OS as Media composer is? The issue is complicated at my end as the computer I'm installing onto does not have have internet connection so de-authorising the software is a pain.

If I buy the download from the Avid online store do I first have to install the Symphony 6.0.1 register it and then de-authorise it and remove it before then installing the Symphony 6.0.1.1 patch. This, I guess, would be the situation with Media Composer on Mac OS. Is there any way to avoid installing and de-authorising the intial Symphony 6.0.1 software?

I've only ever worked with MC on the Mac before and always installed from a box of disks and not a downloaded file.

I can register the software on my desk computer as I've done many times before but de-authorising usually involves borrowing someone's iPhone and tethering its internet link.

I'm hoping there may be an update in the wind that will support OS 10.7.4 as that's the version of Lion I have waiting on the HD for the Symphony software. So do I have to install the original downloaded file first? Does Symphony on Mac operate as Media Composer on PC basically overwriting patches rather than complete installs that require de-authorising and removal.

I'm having this issue when exporting a sequence as a Quicktime reference.

The video is ok but the audio doesn't render the volumes changes from the sequence...

For example in a sequence with the music at -30db, the quicktime reference renders it at 0db...

Anybody have an idea what may be the problem?

Sorry for asking someting that may have been covered, but I've searched the forum, finding only partial answers. I'm trying to establish the proper round trip between Symphony and After Effects, am scratching my head on how to avoid the dreaded gamma shift coming out of Avid, which as I understand it is due to Apple's Quicktime. I'm working in YUV, exporting in 601/709, and whether I use Fast Export Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Reference, either way I'm seeing the shift. I'm testing with SMPTE bars, watching what happens on the waveform. To match the bars clip — exported (either mov or reference) and imported again — to the original tiff I'm bumping the gain to 116.48 and dropping setup to -16.14. Never mind I can't get the pluge to look perfect on my Dell UltraSharp, the waveform speaks.

This poses big problems making the round trip to and from After Effects, as well as QCing my deliverables. Is there a setting in Quicktime prefs that's possibly the culprit? Thanks in advance!
