  • MC V6 to DS 10.3.1 Colour correction wierdness

Ok so our DS is still only 10.3.1 but we have it as a dual boot with Symphony V5.5 and that combination works well for us.

Today I had a client who was running MC V5.5 and sending Avid DNX185 content and sequences to us to AFE into DS for grading. Within the limits of what the DS will take across from MC it's been fine.

They have recently upgraded to MC V6 and send a new project over.

To be safe I opened the project in our MC V5.5 and checked everything was ok. It looked fine. Some graded shots all looked ok.

did the AFE from MC V5.5 (3 sequences) and moved the MXF media over.

Opened the 3 AFEs in DS and the media all linked up fine. But stepping through the sequences I'm getting a weird flicker, sometimes a strange split screen sometimes a weird sort of quad split screen. Just liek corrupt media. It plays fine just when you stop and then only every other frame is a mess.

Strangely the CC applied was a bit unusual so I stepped intot he effect and turned off the CC effect and lo and behold the media now plays perfectly. No issues when parked or frame stepping. Re-enable the CC and I get the problem.

I'd hoped that wshing the sequences through V5.5 MC would ensure I was ok but it looks like MC V6 is doing something MC V5.5 doesn't spot but DS 10.3.1 doesn't like.

  • graphics driver question

had to build new system, power supply died...had another XW8600 lying around...install went great, everything is up and running....but when I check my VIE, I have a mismatch with the nVidia graphics driver...i installed the driver from the DS Support site, which is v 8.17.12.7589, but VIE is looking for 8.17.12.5977....should I use the one on the site, or the one VIE is looking for?

  • Conforming issue - Media Not Found

I am new to Avid DS, working on version 10.5.2 for about a month now.

I have no problems conforming a timeline from an AFE exported from Media Composer, off of the original hard drive that the source clips (dpx format) were tranferred to. However, once I have copied the same rushes to my pc's internal drive, and conform using exactly the same method, I get a "Media Not Found" message. The edit in Media Composer was done on another pc on my network.

I have tried to configure external alternate video sources, and that didn't work either. When conforming, I have the "Create associated clips" and "Create linked clips" check boxes activated.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • New to DS and having problems with AFE from Symphony
Hi guys, I'm a Symphony editor who has decided to teach himself DS with the hope of possibly procuring some extra work. My problem is when exporting any of my current Symphony projects as an AFE all I can see is my titles on the timeline and all the clips say 'media not available' I would imagine it's something obvious i'm missing, but right now I can't seem to see the wood for the trees! My Symphony is 6.01 and the DS is 10.5.2 running on Windows 7 X64 Any advice would be gratefully received as right now I'm ready to bounce my head off the monitor! cheers Rich
  • DNG file workflow in DS

With the new Blackmagic design camera on its way and with the camera able to record 2.5k RAW Cinema DNG files i was looking at possible workflows with DS

    1. DS can work with DNG files native?

    2. Convert DNG files in Resolve to DPX for DS to work with?

    Any thoughts?

  • Media Indexer will not Index ISIS

    Hey Everyone,

I am trying to install a DS workgroup and have hit a snag when trying to get the Media Indexer to index any ISIS workspace.

    Here are the details:
    3 DS 10.5.2 on z800s
1 RP/Controller/ISIS indexer (since everything can run on Win 7 I assumed this would be ok to have the workgroup controller "project indexer", IMS, RP, and Media Indexer all on the same machine)
ISIS 5000 v4, Client v4 with a Force 10 Switch connected via 1Gb copper into a Intel Pro 1000PT Dual Port in every machine.

So I am able to send jobs to the RP without issue, it goes along great but once it's done processing an effect it creates the media file and puts it on the ISIS, but the media indexer doesn't scan and repopulate my timeline when it's finished. So effectively I can write but can't read, or the Media Indexer can't read. Through the new benchmark utitlity (the new pathdiag) I am able to read/write just fine to all workspaces.

Is there anything I'm missing in regards to ISIS 5000 and media indexer?

    Things that people might ask:
I am pointing to ISIS via UNC paths
All logins are the same on all machines
simple file sharing is turned off
I can see all members of my workgroup
I can read/write on a file level to each of the ISIS workspaces

    Thanks for any help!

  • Processing errors?

    Hello out there

I am experiencing a major problem across different projects:

I have a graphic heavy 20sec promo that I re-version every week or so. The reversion is just a change to a graphic node ie "monday" changes to "wednesday". When I go into the container to change the graphic the screen goes black, after the change the monitor stays black and when I try to process I either get a message telling me that my effects are real time or an error message "The parameter is incorrect 0x80070057".I have tried many obvious tweaks but basically if I change anything in the effects tree I get black.  If it was just one project I would  re-build the sequence but it is happening accross a number of different projects that have no shared media and it feels like it could be more systemic.

    Thanks

    Ralph

  • FCP to DS conform questions regarding stills and audio

I'm testing a bunch of workflow to see if DS will be suitable for my upcoming gig.  I will be on lining lots of shorts coming from FCP7.  There will be some editorial, text, Color correction and very little VFX.  Delivery is all file base.

The quickest workflow i found would be:

1-Export AAF from FCP with AMA link using Duck

2-import AAF in symphony 6, mount AMA volume (where all the original prores media are), relink sequence

    3-Export AFE from Symphony 6

4-import AFE and recapture in DS

By following the above workflow i ran into the following problems:

1-Jpeg can't relink therefore i have to reimport each of them in DS again.....VERY time consuming if the sequence has lots of stills.

2-Any audio clips that had their level altered in FCP, it shows up in DS with a red bar above the clip, therefore needs rendering...is this normal ? (hope not).  Thanks

  • Audio out of sync when making quicktime reference files in HD from Avid DS

    AVID DS Nitris 10.1

I am trying to make quicktime reference files from avid ds to take into mpeg streamclip. However I have discovered that every quicktime reference file I make from an HD project has an audio sync issue. The audio goes out of sync with the video within a few seconds into playback.

On a side note I do not have this problem when making quicktime refs from SD projects.

    Any ideas?
